Flower Power

I was outside one day last week watering my flowers and got to thinking that there’s something both powerful and calming to me about watering my flowers.  This task has definitely become a welcomed chore on my everyday “to do” list, and something I look forward too on most days.  I’m not sure exactly what it is about it, but I do think it has something to do with the water, and the way the flowers seem to come to life almost as if they are dancing when the water hits them.  I also think the fact that I’m tending to them makes me feel disciplined in my responsibility for taking care of them.  I see the benefits of patience in realizing that it’s in the daily nurturing of these flowers that has led to how beautiful and vibrant they are now becoming.  This transformation doesn’t happen overnight.  It can only happen over time with my continued care. I got to thinking that nurturing my flowers can be compared to nurturing my faith through my relationship with Jesus.  I am realizing more and more everyday that my daily effort of tending to my relationship with Jesus is what makes all the difference in helping me understand what it truly means to trust in Him for direction for my life here on Earth.  This relationship really is so much like the way it is tending to my flowers.  Flowers begin as a tiny seed, and are totally dependent on the sun and the rain and/or water for growth, health, vibrance, and beauty.  When we first become believers and ask Jesus into our hearts it’s kind of like a seed has been planted in us where we now have the ability to grow and to become beautiful in the unique and special way God intended for us.  However, if we do not make a daily effort to nurture and grow in our faith through scripture and prayer and worship and nurturing Godly relationships, we will always remain like a seed.  You see, as believers, it is tending to the seed that makes all the difference for us in our lives here on Earth.  It’s only through the nurturing and the growth in our relationship with Jesus that will lead us to the life of peace and freedom God intended for us.

“You shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess”
